" Last Friday, the Environment and Society worked on improving our local environment here in Central Falls by picking up garbage on the street, recording what they found, and marking the storm drains with "Do Not Dump; Drains to Bay" signs around the school. Students learned about how garbage and chemicals from streets can end up in the bay, and took action to improve our city and our watershed." - Mr. Needleman

10th grade students in Environmental Chemistry class use bags of skittles to model the distribution of isotopes of the 'Skittalium'. Using colored skittles as different isotopes of the element was a fun way for students to do statistics. This exercise taught the students about the distribution of isotopes and why the atomic mass of an element is a decimal and not a whole number. Chemistry is so complex that using simple models such as the skittles to model chemical systems makes the concepts easier and more fun for the students. Plus they got to eat their isotopes when they were done.

"Students had to lift the mat and carry it across the gym in a relay fashion. The relevance of the activity ties into how stressful a new school year can be and as the work load mounts up, it is helpful to rely on each other to help them get through it. Sometimes the mats fell and students were encouraged to persevere through and keep moving forward. At one point when the mats fell students from other teams helped each other hoist the mat back up to help their peers finish the journey. Kids had a blast! #PE-Rocks" - Nick Lafreniere, PE Teacher
