In memory of Ms. Flynn,

In the spring of 2023, the Central Falls School District was devastated to learn of the sudden passing of long-time educator, Ms. Kelly Flynn. Ms. Flynn was an elementary ESL teacher at the Ella Risk School and had been employed with the District for more than 20 years. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Flynn was an avid athlete and used her passion for sports to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength and make meaningful connections with others as a trained coach for the Girls on the Run program in CFSD.

The Central Falls School District with the full support of Mayor Maria Rivera and her team, is excited to announce the first-ever Flynn’s Flyers 5k road race scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024, starting at 9:00 am. This mixed-terrain road race will get the 2024/2025 school year off to a “running start” while bringing together Kelly’s friends, family, and colleagues to honor Kelly’s impact on the Central Falls School District. After expenses, all money raised will go directly to supporting an expanded CFSD Girl’s on the Run after-school program, all in Kelly’s name. The race logo, colors, and name were all co-created by Kelly’s students and colleagues. There is no doubt that she is high above and smiling down on all those whom she loved, and who continue to love her to this day.

The Flynn's Flyers 5K road race will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Central Falls, Rhode Island. This Central Falls School District-sponsored event is in memory of our long-time colleague, friend, coach, and educator, Ms. Kelly Flynn, who suddenly passed away in the spring of 2023.

The race will start promptly at 9:00 am, with the starting and finishing line at Louis C. Yip Soccer Field located at 1304 High Street, Central Falls, RI 02863. Runners may begin the check-in process at the starting line as early as 8:00 am. Parking for Flynn's Flyers will be available at 53-77 Hunt Street, Central Falls, RI 02863. ****Important****

This race is slightly longer than 3.1 miles and will include BOTH walkers and runners. Either way, have fun and enjoy the morning as we celebrate the legacy of Kelly Flynn. If you are planning to walk, we will kindly ask that you start at the back of the pack; runners will start at the front. All participants will run THREE (3) loops of the course. There will be road closures with police detail throughout the course. In addition, we will have course marshals assisting and will have water stations and medical stations along the course at varying points.
