Deloris Grant

The Central Falls School District is thrilled to announce Dr. Deloris Grant as the 2024 District Teacher of the Year! Dr. Grant, a dedicated educator at Central Falls High School since 1997, has had a profound impact on countless students throughout her remarkable career.

Dr. Grant's passion for language isn't just evident on her impressive resume (though her Master's in Teaching English and Bachelor's in English are certainly noteworthy!). It's contagious! Her innovative teaching style ignites a love of learning in her students, and that passion extends beyond the textbooks. Dr. Grant spearheaded the creation of a vibrant theater program, a platform for students to explore the power of language and drama firsthand. From the timeless works of Shakespeare to contemporary productions, Dr. Grant's program exposes students to a diverse range of themes, fostering their confidence and artistic expression. The program's impact is undeniable: in just the past two years, two students have reached the prestigious RI State Finals of the Shakespeare Oration Competition.

Dr. Grant's commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom walls. Her dedication is further evidenced by her impressive list of accolades, including the Trinity Repertory Pell Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts (2019), the Trio Award (2018), the Women of Achievement Award (YMCA, 2017), an Honorary Doctor of Education (2016), the RI Film Commission Dreammaker Award (2015), and RIC Alumna of the Year (2013). Moreover, she serves as the National Chairperson for the John Lewis Book Club Matters for the past four years and this September she will be presenting a workshop on teaching through the arts in NYC.

Teachers and students alike celebrate Dr. Grant as a true gem for the Central Falls community. Her dedication to her students' intellectual and artistic growth is truly inspiring. The larger RI community is incredibly fortunate to have such a passionate and talented educator inspiring and nurturing young minds.

Dr. Grant's selection as District Teacher of the Year is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her students and the Central Falls community. Her legacy of enriching and empowering young lives will continue to inspire future generations.
